10 dead and 15 injured in mass stabbings across Saskatchewan, Canada
At least 10 people are dead and another 15 have been wounded in a stabbing spree across 13 locations throughout the province of Saskatchewan, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
“It is horrific what has happened in our province today,” RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore said in a press conference on Sunday.
Police said the victims were a mix of those chosen at random and some specifically targeted.
Officers are trying to find suspects Damien and Myles Sanderson, who were last seen driving a black Nissan Rogue with the Saskatchewan license plate 119 MPI.
Prime minister Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter that the government was in “direct communication” with local authorities including the James Smith Cree Nation’s leadership, and “ready to assist in any way we can”.
“Those responsible for today’s abhorrent attacks must be fully brought to justice,” he said.
Residents of village Weldon in Saskatchewan identified 77-year-old Wes Petterson among the victims, while Lana Head, a mother of two, was identified as another one of the victims by her former partner.

Friends and family of the at least 10 people who were killed on Sunday in a northern Saskatchewan community are beginning to identify the people who died during the tragic stabbing attacks.
Residents of village Weldon in Saskatchewan identified 77-year-old Wes Petterson among the victims, who was said to love cats, be a proud maker of Saskatoon berry jam and always keen to lend a helping hand to his neighbours.
The Associated Press quoted a woman named Ruby Works as saying that Petterson was her uncle. “He didn’t do anything. He didn’t deserve this. He was a good, kind-hearted man. I’ve known him since I was just a little girl.”

Multiple patients being treated at several hospitals
The Saskatchewan Health Authority said multiple patients from Sunday’s stabbing attack were being treated at several sites across the region.
“A call for additional staff was issued to respond to the influx of casualties,” authority spokeswoman Anne Linemann said in an email to the Associated Press.

During a briefing on Sunday night, Regina Police Chief Evan Bray confirmed that some of the victims in the deadly stabbing attacks that took place throughout Saskatchewan were targeted while others seemed to be random
Police would not disclose what the relationship is between the two suspects in the attack, Damien and Myles Sanderson, who remain at large, CBC Saskatchewan reported.

Saskatchewan premier offers condolences to victims’ families
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe took to social media on Sunday afternoon to offer his condolences to the families and friends who knew the victims killed or injured in the brutal series of stabbing attacks that left at least 10 dead in the western Canadian province.
“I want to offer my deepest condolences on behalf of the government and people of Saskatchewan to all of the family and friends of the victims of today’s horrific attacks,” wrote the premier on Twitter.
“There are no words to adequately describe the pain and loss caused by this senseless violence. All of Saskatchewan grieves with the victims and their families.”

Police said the victims were a mix of those chosen at random and some specifically targeted. Officers are now on a manhunt, trying to find suspects Damien Sanderson, 31 and Myles Sanderson, 30 – last seen driving a black Nissan Rogue with the Saskatchewan license plate 119 MPI.
Later on Sunday evening, Regina police chief Evan Bray posted a video on Twitter in which he said that the suspects are “likely” to be in the city. Authorities have urged residents to shelter in place and be alert.
So far, authorities have identified three victims of the attacks.

ICYMI: Saskatchewan Health Authority’s emergency response processes triggered
Saskatchewan Health Authority [SHA] said on Sunday that a “code orange” for a mass casualty event had been triggered by the stabbing violence that unfolded in the western Canadian province.
“Our medical teams are working hard to respond to patient needs as this incident unfolds,” read a statement from the SHA. “We can confirm that multiple people are being triaged and cared for at multiple sites.”
Earlier, Rhonda Blackmore, an assistant commissioner with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, said that the deceased and injured were found at 13 locations in the James Smith Cree Nation and in the nearby town of Weldon.
She, however, also added that there may be additional victims “who took themselves to hospital.”

First Nations Horsemen’s Association says many members impacted by tragedy
Following the Saskatchewan tragedy in which 10 people lost their lives and 15 were injured, the First Nations Horsemen’s Association in Canada issued a statement in which it said that many of its members are from the James Smith Cree Nation and were “impacted by the tragedy.”
They didn’t release the names of the victims before the Royal Canadian Mounted police confirmed them officially.
“On behalf of our entire racing community, our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with the James Smith Cree Nation and surrounding area,” read a statement from the group.
