In its second week, Backfin in Eustis is making a splash with its fun and fresh seafood menu. At the corner of Bay St. and Magnolia St., owners Christina and Beau Patteson thought it was the perfect location for their new venture.
“We wanted a change of pace,” Christina said. “We really like the community involvement here in Eustis and love all the festivals and activities they hold. We had several local businesses send us flowers for our opening. It’s a great place to be.”
Christina has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry. She is the former owner of Gators of Umatilla, which closed down Aug. 29. She and her husband opened Backfin only a week later.
Beau comes from a construction background and brings his Chesapeake Bay upbringing to the kitchen as head chef.
Crab cakes and crab pretzels on Backfin menu
They offer a lunch and dinner menu with fresh favorites like Chesapeake Bay crab cakes, Fin’s flamethrower shrimp, lump crab salad stuffed tomato, smoked Mahi and wahoo fish dip, and more.
The crab pretzel has been dubbed “the talk of the town” with a giant soft pretzel topped with lump crab dip.
The dinner menu offers additional appetizers like ahi tuna, sweet cornbread, crispy fried calamari, and fried alligator tail.
Fresh salads are made with house-made dressing and include a crab cake spring salad, caesar salad, Fin’s house salad, and the popular strawberry salmon salad with house-made raspberry vinaigrette.
Sandwiches are a nice choice for lunch or dinner and include the seagull sandwich with mouth-watering chicken breast, alligator PoBoy or the smashed classic with an 8 oz. black Angus flame-grilled patty on a grilled kaiser roll.
Entrees include Fin’s clams and linguine, 8 oz. sirloin, pork loin chops, two-piece haddock, Norwegian salmon, Mahi Mahi, jumbo shrimp, fresh scallops, and grilled gulf grouper steak.
Kids menu, gluten-free and vegetarian options available
Gluten-free, vegetarian, and kids options are also available.
Backfin also offers a full bar with classic cocktails and Fins specialties like mermaid water, Fins Mai Tai, lotus martini, cucumber citrus martini, and Fins Godfather.
“The main thing we want people to know is we are not a chain,” Christina said. “We are a family-owned restaurant making everything from scratch. We truly love this community and all the support they’ve shown already.”
Backfin hosts Bingo every Tuesday night and hopes to host Seafood Weekends with specials like soft shell crab and boil night.
